How Do You Eat an Elephant?

One bite, one day, one queen-sized step at a time

Queens&Sisters Journal · 5 min read

There are seasons in life when everything feels manageable. And then there are seasons when your to-do list develops its own postal code. The business needs attention. The house needs attention. The family needs attention. Your health needs attention. Your inbox needs an exorcism. And somewhere in the middle of all that, you’re supposed to drink more water and become your best self.

It’s a lot. And when life feels overwhelming, we tend to make the same mistake — we look at the entire elephant. The whole project. The whole business. The whole renovation. The whole career change. The whole dream. And then we freeze. Not because we’re incapable — because the task is simply too large to hold in our heads.

You do not need to
finish the elephant today.
You only need today’s bite.

The women who just keep going

The women we admire most aren’t necessarily the most talented. They’re the ones who keep moving — quietly, consistently, without needing fireworks or motivation speeches. They understand something powerful: progress isn’t a single leap. It’s one email. One walk. One page. One phone call. One proposal. One difficult conversation. One tiny step that moves life forward.

The funny thing is that success often looks spectacular from the outside. But from the inside? It usually looks like someone doing small things over and over again, while wondering whether any of it is working. It is. That’s what this season is for.

✦ The Queens & Sisters reframe

Instead of “How do I build the entire dream?” ask “What is the next step?”

The dream becomes a plan. The plan becomes an action. The action becomes progress.

Progress, however small, is a wonderful antidote to overwhelm.

You don’t need to finish the week. You only need the next bite.

The Bite-Sized Method
Four small moves

This is where the planner earns its place on your desk. It brings the elephant back to human size — one page, one morning, one bite at a time.

1

Name the elephant.

Write down the whole big thing — the business, the renovation, the dream — in one sentence. Giving it a name moves it out of the fog in your head and onto the page, where it can finally be managed.

2

Find today’s bite.

Not the plan for the next five years. Just the next single action — one email, one call, one page, one conversation. If it fits in an hour, it’s the right size.

3

Do the bite. Not the animal.

One task, finished, is worth more than a perfect plan that never starts. Close the laptop the moment it’s done. Resist the urge to “just keep going” until you’ve burned out. The bite is enough.

4

Let it add up.

Look back at the week, not the day. Small steps compound quietly into big change — and the evidence is sitting right there in your planner, bite by bite. ♡

The dream becomes the day

So if life feels particularly elephant-shaped today, remember: you don’t need to conquer everything. You don’t need to figure out the next five years. You don’t even need to finish the week.

You only need the next bite. Then another. Then another. Before you know it, the elephant is wondering what happened — and you’re already planning the next adventure.

Queens & Sisters Queen Reminder

You don’t need to
conquer everything today.
Just the next bite.
Then another.

The dream becomes a plan.
The plan becomes a day.
The day becomes a life. ♡

One bite at a time,
the elephant disappears —
and the dream becomes a plan. ♡
